The Amarilla Golf and Country Club

This 6,077m challenging course with large ponds and sand bunkers has been built with the golf in mind, combining luxury and natural charm. Its central location with the Reina Sofia airport next door and only 15 minutes from popular areas such as Los Cristianos and Las Americas means the golf course is in its own little peaceful world.

Built by Donald Steel in 1989 the course offers views over the Atlantic. The first five holes follow the coastline and cliffs, whilst the remaining holes move inland towards mountain ranges and picturesque backdrops. This excellent course has hosted events such as the Tenerife Opening part of the European PGA Tour in 1990, attracting golfers from all over the world.

The Course

The Golf Del Sur is one of the biggest golf courses in Tenerife with 27 holes, attracting many keen golfers. Pepe Gancedo designed the course originally in 1987 but it was Manuel Pinero, the top Spanish player who gave the course its real ‘flare’ converting it to a par 36 and making it a Championship course.

Golf Del Sur caters for all levels of experience, with beginner golfers having the option to attend the Golf Academy that has spacious practice ranges and a stocked golf shop supplying everything you need.

There are 3 courses challenging all levels of expertise with various water hazards and natural features. First, the North Course runs along the San Blas Ravine which is the most attractive course of them all. The 5th Hole has the most fantastic views over the course and sea due to its raised position. In the South Course, hole 2 seems to be a favourite for many, known as the “fried egg” due to the volcanic sand in the surrounding area. The natural landscape is protected under the Golf Del Sur management ethos and was awarded the Madera Verde Diplome of Honour in 2007 for the best environmentally friendly golf business in Spain.

The Golf Del Sur has hosted the Tenerife Opening for 3 years in a row with José Maria Olazábal taking the crown. The course has also seen the likes of the Shell Wonderful World of Golf Tournament and the Ladies Open in 2002.
